One of the most cultured old cities in Europe, specially
for music and arts, is Vienna in Austria. This city has a
long history. It exists already since BC and is supposed
to be of Celtic origin, until the Roman established a mili-
tary camp in this area around 100 AD. They continued
living there until 500 AD. Vienna was all the time a tra-
ding site, and 1100 AD it became Capital of Babenberg,
under the regency of the Austrian Habsburg. From there
on it further flourished and prospered. In 1900 century
it became the Capital of the Austrian Empire and later of
Austria-Hungary, as long both were liaised. Vienna got
also recognized internationally as a so-called World City.

It has a famous past and tradition. From here lots of European
history got made, where Prince Eugene of Savory took the main
part of it, who fought all over Europe, handling military type of situations in the area
for his important House of Habsburg. He also gathered an extensive collection of
paintings, etchings, incunabula, illuminated manuscripts and books in his intimate
palace, he literally loved filling up his paint collection. He is one of the major contri-
butors, who helped actively creating that Vienna is so much packed with arts.

                                                                                          Next to historical gorgeous buildings,
                                                                                          parks, castles, paintings and literature,
Vienna is the "World's Capital Of Music",
and is worldwide known for its very
special uniqueness with the music of
                                                                                          the Composer  and Orchestra Master
Johann Strauss. He wrote the entire
music for dancing the waltz and
                                                                                          brought full enjoyment and happiness
to the city, with this light and swinging
elegant dance. Today Vienna is full of
                                                                                          dance schools in several languages,
where one can enjoy, learning all the
details to this nice and socializing
                                                                                          classic dance.

There are many dance festivals, and
the city is hosting over 300 balls every
year, celebrating it specially during the fasching/carneval season, which is in January
and February. But you cannot join to such a celebration, if you cannot dance the waltz.
So let's practice a bit in one of the many dance schools first. The Opera Ball at the
Vienna State Opera middle of February, is something of a legend. It is also featuring its
own waltz ball. This occasion also provides the unique opportunity to view the Opera
House on the Ring Boulevard, both from the auditorium and as it were "backstage"
rubbing shoulders with stars from the world of music. Even the world-famous Vienna
Philharmonic are celebrating their own waltz-ball, and are performing live with all their
music instruments.

In Vienna live many world known architects, creating these days lots of modern art.
All of that, including all the many classical and historical buildings in the city and its
surroundings, which are passing over the time of centuries, it will give you some very
extra and exciting views into a very rich and elegant culture. Old churches, govern-
ment buildings, castles and museums of many arts - one can even find Roman ruins
in middle of the city on several places.
