The Island Of Crete
       by Greece
High Class
Crete is a real legend in Greek history. It is the greatest island of Greece and the 5th
in the Mediterranean Sea. From 2600 - 1454 BC Crete was the center of the Minoan
culture, which is known as the oldest ancient civilization. In its time was this island
a significant area for history-making circumstances and events and is providing
today adventuress tourist destinations and attractions. But there are also other
famous places part of it, like Knossos, Phaistos, Gortys and the old city with port
of Chania, Rethimnon and Agios Nicolaos.
All these places are major historical locations
of its time, and somebody planning to visit
Crete, should find out about all these attrac-
tions and stories right after arriving. It cannot
get all that covered in this one article.

Per the Greek mythology Minos was a big
King of Crete, the Son of Zeus and Europe.
He reigned over Crete and its islands of the
Aegean Sea, three generations before the
Trojan War. He lived for several years in
Knossos, where he received instruction
from his father Zeus about a legislation,
which he then implemented to his fellows.

The Minoan Culture was already up to high standards of its time. Looking at the
old ruins, paintings, ceramics and other, they must have been a very nice civilization,
worth to live in. It must have been really beautiful at this time. There are many histo-
rical places and archeological artifacts you can visit and many historic museums can
tell you all about these unbelievable stories. Names like King Minos, Theseus, Minotaur,
Deadalus and Iracus, later all written down by Homer for us, so we can read about
these incredible times still today in our
high school history books. Who doesn't
know the story of Troy, which took its
beginning right at this time. Since then
the history of Crete just continued to
go on with the Roman, the Turk, the
Arabic, the Christians, and so we are
still interested today, to find it all out
                                                                                         about.

The climate on this island is very
                                                                                         Mediterranean, in several areas African
like. It is a stable climate with humidity
and sunshine, but during the winter
it becomes pretty cold, and snow builds
up on its mountains. In summer the
temperatures go up to 90 degrees and
swimming in the Mediterranean Sea on
one of the many miles long Beaches of
Crete is lots of fun and enjoyment. The very blue sea is good tempered and very clean.
Specially around the city of  Rethimnon you can find lots of beautiful Beaches, and
there is even one just for nudists.
