Cairo, The Old World Of Egypt

Cairo, with an age of over 5000 years, is by far
the oldest city of Egypt, and with nearly seven
million inhabitants the capital of the country.
Outside of it live another 10 million people, what
makes it to the largest metropolitan in Africa.
The climate in Cairo is a dessert climate, but a
high humidity comes to the city from the river's
valley effect. Storms through the months March
and April can bring Saharan dust. Cairo and

Having so many people in one place, the area is
pretty much crowded, noisy and sometimes dusty. But the atmosphere, the ethnic
and culture, as well as the very special everywhere present history of different ages
and epochs, makes this trip to an outstanding oriental exotic adventure, out of
this world nobody should miss visiting. If you have some medical reasons, then
go between November until February, to be save on temperature and dust.

With all its monuments, old churches, buildings, historical places - and very obviously
the pyramids and the sphinx - are transmitting you back in time. You may feel yourself
hundreds of years earlier. Coptic Cairo is the oldest part of the city and it is the place,
where per the newest archeological understanding Babylon got built by the Roman. It
is older than 2000 years and you will find most of the Egypt churches in there, like the
Hanging Church, which is the center of Coptic Work Ship and the Ben Ezra Synagogue,
what is the oldest one in Egypt. This area is, including Roman artifacts, a very interesting
one. If you like walking through warren kind of streets, Islamic Cairo is inviting you to
visit many of the mosques (citadels), and gives you lots of shopping opportunities. A
major mosque is the Mosque of Mohammed All and Ibn Tulun, which is one of the largest
anywhere. And Al Azhar houses the oldest university in the entire world (from 970 AD).


























In the Luxor museum are most of the tombs empty, but there are still enough ornaments,
vases and jewelry displayed from this time. But in this museum you will find the glory of
Egypt's archeology. It is the place, every visitor of Egypt should see. There are objects
on display taken from the Tutankhamen's
tomb and from several other famous
kings.

Then there is The City Of The Dead
(Oarafa) with its huge necropolis,
the Nil and also the Pyramids. The
best is renting a boat. Wanting to
get through everything what Cairo
has to offer, you need to spend at
least 2 or 3 weeks. This should let
you explore the entire area for the
